Bieber's Bulge
In the first video we watched in class, they discussed that he looked fine in both the original and photoshopped. The real issue in this video was that ads everywhere are photoshopped and you can't escape that. Also mentioned is that if you come out and say a photo of you isn't photoshopped when it obviously was then that makes you sound ridiculous. The hosts then said that Bieber would have gotten more respect if he just said that he loved his body and didn't know what to do with the picture afterwards, but instead his agent decided to fight against it making biebs look worse.
In the second video we watched in class the host discussed the how Berber looked more like the average 20 year old should, but his legal teams said that Justin is in fact jacked. The real issue discussed is the body image aspect of photo shop. To be a real man in todays society you must be larger literally everywhere. And if you don't look like that then you're considered weak. She also says that photoshop is overused. This causes boys to develop unhealthy habits and to have self esteem issues, since they see all these manly men in ads all over the place.

I agree that the American idea of masculinity has to do mostly with size and that it's hard for young men to deal with. The sad truth is that body image is not just an issue for women in society but for men as well.
ReplyDeleteI like how you explained your blog post. I think teenagers in our society feel less superior because they don't look the way people do in magazines. I think it's interesting to the point where they photoshop his private parts. Men feel less superior and think they aren't "Up to the normal standards". It's quite interesting.
