Cultivation Theory
Cultivation theory mainly deals with the long term effects television has on us. What we see on television greatly influences how we see the world. People now a days seem to live in fear all because of what they watch on tv. Many people view torture as a way to elevate problems. As seen in most police or crime shows, the investigator will torture the suspected criminal for the answers he or she wants. The longer it takes for the criminal to speak the more torture methods are used. With saying that most people believe what they see on the television.If it works in a show the people will believe it works in real life because well everything seen on tv has to be true!
I think it's crazy how much television can influence an individuals thoughts and perception of the world. Even when it comes to watching fiction. People will know what they're watching is fake, but they still perceive it as real and it changes the way they think. Most people watch the news and are always up-to-date on what is happening around the world and in Washington. The problem with that is the media usually shows things from the worst perspective. So I think people believe the world and our country is a lot worse than it actually is.
