empowering women

Image
In the ad above I believe that Jean Kilbourne would still be upset about it.  She is obviously photoshopped and the hair is not natural.  It is empowering that women can now think that they don't have to shave head to toe to impress anyone, but themselves.  The ad also shows that since all hair is beautiful you should embrace your natural side.  This ads still seems as if the model is portrayed as sexual.   In the ad below it shows equality.  For once a woman isn't naked! Jean Kilbourne would be proud.  This ad finally shows women that they can show off more than just their bodies.  This ad lets men know that women are more than just an object which Jean Kilbourne pointed out quite a bit in her documentary "Killing us Softly".

Romantic Couples

Ross and Rachel from the show "Friends" went to high school together and wasn't until they were much older did they end up falling in love.  Rachel moved to New York and moved in with Monica (Ross's sister) and thats how they became best friends and later on lovers.  Chuck Kolsterman says love is only fake because you are never be fully satisfied with what you have.  There is always something better as portrayed on television.  Ross and Rachel are the perfect example of fake love.  They fight and bicker all the time and they break up they always find someone that better suits their needs at the time.  Ross is a good example of the message of perfection for the reading "The Rise of the Lavish Wedding".  Ross got married a few times before he drunkenly married Rachel.  All his weddings before were full of luxury items.  The best of the best.  The message of perfection here is that no matter what the wedding needs to be perfect.  Well ...

Brand Identity

Brand Identity is how a company wants to presents themselves to certain consumers.  One store that I like to shop at is Nike.  Nike is an universal company.  They have stuff for almost everyone.  They offer sport wear and casual wear.  Their ads mostly involve athletes and their performances.  Nike wants to present themselves as the best of the best.  One store that I avoid at all costs would have to be Ann Taylor.  Ann Taylor targets the older and more of the business crowd of women.  This store is full of pastel and boring colors.

Duke Porn Star

In the first video we watched the Young Turks talked about the duke student being bullied for doing porn to help pay for her college expenses.  They went on and on about how it was her fault all her information got out, since she was the one that told a frat boy.  They slut shamed her.   They had nothing positive to say about the student or the porn industry.  One of the hosts said that the student was just young and naive. While in another video we watched from The View, they were more concerned about the student herself.  They brought in "Bell Knox" and talked to her about her job choice.  She says she feels comfortable and loves her job.  She has all the control she needs to feel safe and nothing ever goes too far.
